Omowumi Asubiaro Dada
Omowumi Asubiaro Dada (Wumi) is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science at the University of Guelph in Canada. She teaches in the Justice Legal Studies/Criminal Justice and Public Policy programmes. Her academic interest is in gender, conflict and international law and is building her scholarship as an African Legal Feminist.
Prior to crossing over to begin a career in academia, Wumi worked in law and public policy for the past 21 years to design and manage projects social inequality, gender-based violence and inclusion for development programmes such as the DFID/FCDO funded Gender & Affirmative Action Project, the Voices for Change Project, non-governmental organisations such as WRAPA, government agencies and international development agencies such as British Council, World Bank, UN Women and Ford Foundation.
She still consults for them occasionally and sits on the boards of notable organizations like Baobab for Women’s Human Rights, Gatefield Africa and Women Advocates Resource and Documentation Centre (WARDC).
Wumi is the founding director of the Centre for Redefining Alternative Civic Engagement for Africa (RACE Centre).
