Hajia Saudatu Mahdi
Hajia Saudatu Mahdi is a highly respected women’s rights advocate and the Secretary-General of Women’s Rights Advancement and Protection Alternative (WRAPA). Her work focuses on addressing issues such as gender-based violence, women’s access to education, and socio-economic empowerment.
Hajia Mahdi has played a pivotal role in mobilizing grassroots and national campaigns to advance women’s rights in Nigeria. She has been involved in legislative advocacy for the domestication of international treaties, including CEDAW (Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women), in Nigeria.
Her leadership has been instrumental in bridging the gap between policy and practice in women’s rights advocacy. She has published over 20 books focusing on violence against women, women’s rights, Shari’a, and women and women in education. Hajia Mahdi led the team that fought and won the acquittal of a Nigerian woman who was sentenced to death by hanging because she had a child out of wedlock.
