CALL FOR SUBMISSION OF CONCEPT NOTES

2023 GRANT ON STRENGTHENING WOMEN’S INSTITUTIONS FOR LEADERSHIP AND ENDING VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN AND GIRLS

 

The Nigerian Women Trust Fund (NWTF) is a national organization that works across the 36 states of the country and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. The organization is a nonpartisan organization. NWTF envisions a Nigeria where women and men engage equally in governance leading to national development.

The ideals of NWTF are woven around the principles of inclusion, equity, favourable political environment, and the absence of gender-based discrimination and violence. Towards the advancement of the above, NWTF seeks to support women’s groups and institutions at the national, states and across communities in Nigeria, to empower them to rise above all barriers and be able to demand for their human rights, participate fully in governance and strengthen Nigeria’s democratic process. 

The overall goal of the call for the submission of concept notes is to strengthen women’s strategic positioning through support to institutions with potential to be active stakeholders in the strengthening of women’s voices and leadership and to reduce the barrier that women face by supporting sensitization efforts aimed at ending violence against women and girls.

 

Objectives:

  1. To provide institutional strengthening support to women-led and women focused organizations.
  2. To increase awareness through sensitization on the need to end violence against women and girls.
  3. To increase the number of women-led and women focused organizations that are working on women’s leadership.
  4. To strengthen women’s voices on women’s rights issues.

Thematic Areas of the Call

  1. Institutional strengthening of women-led and women focused organizations particularly in the following areas of need:
  2. Finance Management Training
  3. Organization’s Strategy Planning
  4. Leadership Training
  5. Proposal/Reporting Writing Training
  6. Project Management Training
  1. Sensitization on ending violence against women and girls militating against women’s leadership.  
  2. Research on topical issues relating to institutional strengthening of women’s organizations, women’s leadership and on how violence against women and girls serve as a barrier to women’s leadership.

NWTF invites women-focused Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs), Community-Based Organisations (CBOs), academic institutions, media, and young women networks and initiatives across Nigeria to submit concept notes on any of the three thematic areas listed above.  

 

Categories of Grant

Category A: N1,000, 000 – N1, 500,000

This category is targeted at community-based organisations that are active and with evidence of project work in the last two years who require institutional strengthening (as listed above) and focused on support for research on topical issues affecting women and girls from a gender perspective, women’s rights, women’s leadership and participation at community, state and national levels.

 

Category B: N2,000,000 – N3,000,000

This category is targeted at civil society organizations, media organizations focused on community mobilization on women’s leadership and ending violence against women and girls especially on physical, sexual and domestic violence.

Expected Duration of the grant project: 4 – 6 months.

Deadline for Submission of Concept Notes:  

24 February 2023.  All concept notes must be submitted to: grants@womenfund.org.

 

Eligibility Criteria for Organization:

  • Must be a gender-focused organization and most of its staff and board members must be women.
  • Must have been in existence for at least two years.
  • Must demonstrate the necessary organizational structures for effective implementation of the project.
  • Must be a local Non-Governmental Organization (NGO)/Community Based Organisation (CBO) registered and based in the state being considered
  • Must have an appreciable administrative, financial, human resource and information management system to properly account for funds received.
  • Must be capable of reporting back to NWTF on the outcomes of the project.
  • Proposed projects should be innovative, have measurable objectives that are sound and well-thought-out, and clearly indicate the target Projects should also have the potential for sustainability.

All concept notes received will be reviewed based on the above criteria, according to program needs, NWTF’s diversity and inclusion clause, and fund availability. Only applicants whose concept notes have been shortlisted will be invited to submit full proposals.  Applicants whose concept notes were not selected in previous calls, but whose areas of interest fall within the thematic focus of this call, are encouraged to apply.

Please note: NWTF will not shortlist any concept note that focuses on funding political parties or campaigns; government agencies; scholarships; for-profit initiatives and projects aimed at religious conversion.

 

Young women, Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) and organisations working in hard-to-reach areas are strongly encouraged to apply.
