Democracy cannot be practiced without women—Fijabi

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Nigerian Women Trust Fund (NWTF) Ms Mufuliat Fijabi has decried the continual decline of women participation in politics.

Speaking at the Ninth Assembly Women in parliament Press briefing with the theme: Women’s Political Participation and Inclusion In the 2023 General Elections, held at Transcorp Hilton on Monday, the CEO stressed the need for Nigerians to make the gender process more proactive, active and inclusive as democracy cannot be practiced without the inclusion of women.

“This is a call to Nigerians to the need to make our gender process to be more proactive, more active and inclusive. The percentage of women is very low. We cannot practice democracy without the inclusion of women,” she said.

For women to be proactive in our democracy today women need to be supported before party primary election, All support that women need it should be given to them before primary election for them to be able to take part in the party primary election and get the party ticket and be part of the election. The support I am talking about is fund, capacity building in times of leadership both morals and emotional support.

Agreed but, yet women can not practice democracy or involve fully and freely in politics because fund is the number threat waiting for HER in the field.
Lot of women want to get involved shunning all religious and cultural forces but when it comes to finance we get discouraged.

That’s correct but, we tried political leadership by working across party lines through women’s caucuses, even in issues of gender equality, such as the removal of gender-based violence we women tried to participate but we lack behind and are eliminated because we lack fund,
